2006 Chevrolet Aveo lurches when driving?

I haven't had many problems with the car until recently. When I'm driving and going a steady speed sometimes accelerating in first or second gear, the car will lurch a few times. It feels as though the engine isn't getting enough fuel. I took it to a mechanic I know and he said to try and change the fuel filter. Problem is I was told the fuel filter is integrated into the pump. So if I want to replace the filter I have to replace the whole pump. Someone suggested I put in high octane fuel. I'm not sure what I should do or what it could be. Any suggestions?
